POLIO

As of April 16, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reports a total of 15 cVDPV2 cases and 10 cVDPV2-positive environmental samples in Africa. In addition, eight WPV1-positive environmental samples were detected in Afghanistan, 25 in Pakistan, one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample in the occupied Palestinian territory, and one in Papua New Guinea.

H5N1

No cases of person-to-person or mammal-to-mammal transmission of H5N1 have been reported in the U.S. as of April 21.

On April 18, Vietnam General Confederation of Labour reported a rare case of H5N1-related encephalitis in an 8-year-old girl from Tay Ninh. The virus was detected in cerebrospinal fluid, with no respiratory involvement. She had prior contact with dead poultry and is currently in intensive care.

MPOX

Data from the World Health Organization shows 4033 laboratory confirmed MPOX cases in Uganda. This is an increase of 473 cases from March April 6-13, 2025.

On April 8, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health confirmed the country's first Clade 1b mpox case in a traveler returning from Africa. The individual is in isolation, and authorities state there is no risk to the public.

MEASLES

As of April 11, 2025, Center for Disease Control reports a total of 800 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2025. 11 % of cases are/have been hospitalized (85 cases of 800), and 3 cases have died.

As of April 22, 2025, the number of reported measles cases in Texas has surpassed 600, reaching a total of 624 confirmed cases, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. This is an increase of 83 from April 11, 2025. The majority of cases are unvaccinated/have unknown vaccination status (602 cases of 624).
