New publication examines whether job training makes a difference for workers in the informal sector

This article by Nina Torm shows that informal workers who have undergone training in the sectors of construction, micro-trade and transport in Kenya and Tanzania have earnings that are between 16-21 pct. higher than informal workers who are untrained. Given that in much of the Global South informal workers constitute the vast majority of the workforce, the findings contribute to a large literature on work-related training returns most of which focuses on formal workers.
